The Oakland Athletics have signed a binding agreement to purchase land near the Las Vegas Strip, where they intend to construct a major league ballpark, team president Dave Kaval said Wednesday night.

The agreement is for a 49-acre site owned by Red Rock Resorts, the parent company of Station Casinos.

Kaval told the Las Vegas Review-Journal a $1.5 billion, 35,000-seat stadium with a partially retractable roof would be built on the site, adding that other developments, including restaurants and an amphitheater, are being discussed.

According to the article it's a "public-private partnership." I wonder how much the taxpayers are going to get soaked on this one. It's my understanding the reason the A's couldn't get their deal done in Oakland is because of a lack of corporate welfare, so I expect this to be bad.

They support the Lighting & Bucs

But not the Rays

The location of the stadium in St Pete is said to be the problem and attendance would improve if a dtadium is built in Tampa

However the City of St Petersburg doesn't want to let the Rays out of their deal to move

I don't blame the owner at all if he finally does pack up and move he has been more than patient all these years

The Bart station was convenient and baseball tickets were always cheap but the place is a dump.
Saw a bunch of great Raiders games in the late 70's early 80's as a kid in the same venue.

RIP pro sports in Oakland
